The Shawano Community High School track and field teams opened the spring season competing at the Wausau West Early Bird Invite on Saturday. The girls team earned 126 points to finish second, while the boys came in third with 75.5 points.
Shawano’s girls team earned five first-place finishes. Odessa Arce (800-meter), Lydia Beyer (1,600), Alice Hoffmann (3,200) and Avery Dreier (shot put) each earned individual first-place finishes. The team of Grace Beyer, Lydia Beyer, Hoffmann and Arce joined forces in the 4x720 relay to also take first.
On the boys’ side, Michael Klement led the way by taking first in the 200 and pole vault.
Earning second-place finishes for the girls were Isabel Roloff (55), Grace Beyer (1,600), Claire Guenther (3,200), Aubree Zastrow (55 hurdles), Morgan Weinig (shot put) and Tori DePerry (high jump). Parker Pues (55) and Reef Anthony (pole vault) each placed second for the boys.
Carter Schmidt (400), Nathan Krizan (shot put), Gage Timm (triple jump) and Pues (long jump) each took third.
The Gresham/Bowler co-op also competed at the invite, with the girls taking third and boys sixth.
Ireland Jensen (400) took first in the 400 for the girls, while Makayla Belongia and Georgia Schultz took third in the 55 and 400, respectively. Will Jensen led the boys’ team with a third-place finish in the 55 hurdles.
Tigerton also sent athletes into competition. The girls finished fifth, while the boys did not score.
Ladia Block paced the girls team by taking second in the 400. Monika Minniecheske finished third in the 200 hurdles.
