For the second consecutive year, the Bonduel girls and boys cross-country team each qualified for the WIAA State Meet.
The girls team secured their trip to state by placing first at the Division 3 Westfield Sectional on Saturday with just 47 points. The boys team earned its spot at state by scoring 63 points to take first place.
Kara Troxel (20 minutes, 21.45 seconds), Madison Kurey (22:08.92) and Breanna Schnell (22:33.41) all placed in the top 10 to lead the girls team, finishing second, seventh and 10th respectively. Jessica Ewing (22:55.36) and Erin Timler (24:13.16) rounded out the team score, placing 14th and 26th overall, respectively.
Jared Wondra (18:08.61) placed fourth while Colin Ewing (18:17.5) and Carter Kurey (18:21.71) took seventh and ninth, respectively. Jack Johnson (19:30.03) came in 20th while William Beaumier (19:56) placed 32nd to round out the boys team score.
Katlin Thompson (24:49.56) and Kim Smith (26:40.72) filled out the girls team while Alex Jasch (21:26.35) and Colen Klosterman (21:39.47) rounded out the boys team.
Mitchell Behnke (22:27.8) and Leo Schultz (23:46.1) ran for Wolf River Lutheran.
Witt-Birn teams place inside top 10
The Wittenberg-Birnamwood boys team placed sixth with 168 points while the girls team came in ninth with 204 points at the Division 3 Amherst Sectional on Saturday.
Cole Schairer (18:05) paced the boys team with a 13th place finish. Brendan Resch (18:45.2) took 26th while Ian Resch (19:26.8) placed 41st. Wyatt Dickman (20:01.3) and Evan Stanislawski (20:05) rounded out the boys team score while Simon Schairer (20:33.2) and Chad Moegenburg (20:47.8) also competed.
Freshmen Jenna Stone (21:39.5) and Ruby Nowinsky (21:57.8) led the girls team with 18th and 21st place finishes, respectively. Chloe King (23:58.4), Erica Wendler (24:13.4) and Lauren Dombeck (26:01.1) capped the team score. Molly Gretzlock (27:18.2) was the team’s sixth and final runner.
The Gresham/Bowler boys had four runners compete, led by a 44th place finish from Levi Schick (19:31.3). Lane Schultz (20:29.9), Noah Bestul (22:01.3) and Austin Slater (24:27.6) also represented the co-op. Maya Theix (31:59.3) was the lone girls runner from the co-op.
The Marion boys team sent three boys into the sectional and were led by Justin Wuske (19:03.5). Reed Wiesman (21:45) and Isaiah Gueths (22:09.4) also ran for the Mustangs.
Ashton Cox (19:20.8) paced a trio of Menominee Indian boys runners. Joshua Besaw (22:16.7) and Jameson Besaw (22:25.5) also competed.
The WIAA State Cross-Country Meet will be held at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids next Saturday.
