BOYS BASKETBALL

Cerveny leads Wildcats again

Junior Neal Cerveny scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds and added three assists in Gresham’s 65-34 victory Tuesday night over Wisconsin Valley Lutheran.

Ray Creapeau added a similar stat line, with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Wildcats (2-0).

Drew Haffner dished out eight assists in the victory over Wisconsin Valley Lutheran (0-1).

Last-second shot misses for Hawks

Shawano sophomore Cole Nelson hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key to cut Wisconsin Rapids’ lead to one, but a three-quarter court shot at the final buzzer did not drop as the Hawks fell 54-53 on Saturday at the Justagame Shootout in Wisconsin Dells.

Senior center Zeke Gueths had a big game for Shawano (0-2), recording 21 points and nine rebounds, including 11-of-12 shooting from the free throw line against the Red Raiders (1-1).

Nelson added nine points, on three three-point field goals, and four assists in the loss.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Chargers mount large comeback in win

Siri Zeinert and Kirsten Clark scored 19 and 14 points respectively in Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s 58-45 comeback victory over Bonduel Tuesday night.

The Bears were leading by 10 with about 10 minutes to play.

Hayley Sorenson tallied 18 points, on 70 percent shooting from the field, and nine rebounds. Emily Sorenson added 10 points and six rebounds for the Bears (3-1, 0-1 Central Wisconsin Conference-8).

Zeinert led Wittenberg-Birnamwood (3-0, 1-0) on the glass with six boards, while Clark added four assists in the victory.

Eagles down Port Edwards

Senior forward Ania Smith tallied 16 points in Menominee Indian’s 46-16 victory over Port Edwards on Tuesday.

The Eagles made 17 of their 28 free throws.

The Eagles (3-0, 1-0 Central Wisconsin Conference-10) remained undefeated while Port Edwards fell to 0-2 and 0-1 in conference play.

Gresham falls big to Tigerton

Junior forward Sydney Jensen scored 14 points while Makena Arndt added seven points in Gresham’s 54-30 loss to Tigerton on Tuesday.

The Tigers (1-1, 1-0 CWC-10) were led by Charity Desrochers’ 16 points and Angela Hoffman’s 12 points.

Gresham fell to 1-1, 0-1.

BOYS SWIM

Hawks drop dual to Tomahawk

Junior Griffin Rades took first place in the 200-yard individual medley and 200 backstroke, but Shawano opened the swim season with a 82-81 loss Tuesday to Tomahawk in Shawano.

Rades also joined Cayman Kunschke, Nathan Kane and Kyle Easter in a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.

James Krueger took home first place in the 100 butterfly, and Kunschke also won the 100 breaststroke.
