One year after winning the WIAA Division 3 State Cross-Country Meet, Marion High School junior Delaney Greene-Gretzinger is back to defend her title.

Greene-Gretzinger took second place (19 minutes, 12 seconds) in the Amherst Sectional on Saturday, trailing only Amherst senior Alissa Niggemann by one second.

In Division 2, Clintonville senior Kara Pyatskowit will also travel to Wisconsin Rapids for her first state meet. Her time of 18:47 on Saturday in Tomahawk was 47 seconds faster than runner-up Jaci Hinz, of Freedom.

Pyatskowit was one of five runners to post sub-19-minute times during the Division 2 sectionals Saturday.

Runners from the top two teams in each sectional advanced to state, along with the five fastest individual runners not on any qualifying team.

Shawano was not able to send any runners to the state meet. Teagan Monfils was closest to qualifying, finishing in 13th place (20:36). Andrew Cardish ran the fastest time for the Hawks boys and finished 20th.

In Division 3, Bonduel was also unable to qualify any runners to state, as the boys team finished in fourth place and the girls took seventh. Ashlyn Schnell paced the girls team with a 17th-place finish. Jared Wondra finished ninth in 17:56 Saturday, seven seconds behind the final individual qualifier.
