A back-and-forth battle early in the second game gave the Menominee Indian High School girls volleyball team some hope against visiting Rosholt.
However, a seven-point run for the Hornets, led by senior middle hitters Amber Bianco and Bre Richter, pushed Rosholt (4-0 overall, 1-0 Central Wisconsin Conference-10) ahead in the game 16-9, and to the eventual 3-0 victory over the Eagles (0-1 overall , 0-1 CWC-10).
“The serving run helped bring back the momentum to get us back on top,” Rosholt head coach Angie Richter said.
MIHS senior setter and right-side hitter Taylor Mahkimetas seemed to be in the right position to help the Eagles keep the game within reach, whether serving, setting or attacking.
Menominee Indian did not back down though, competing point-for-point with the Hornets the rest of the game, losing the second set 25-19.
Eagles head coach Colette White did not comment on the game prior to deadline Tuesday night.
The third game showed how much Rosholt was in control, especially after sophomore setter Emily Rink rolled off a long serving streak to extend the lead to 13 points at 22-9.
“We all played as a family. We played as a team,” Richter said. “It was fun for them, and it felt good.”
Once again, though, Menominee Indian bounced back with a run of its own.
Autumn Chevalier helped the Eagles rebound in the final game, earning five consecutive points at the service line to close to lead to eight, but they could not get any closer, as the Hornets won 25-15.
