No. 5-seeded Shawano won its WIAA Division 2 regional opener 7-3 at No. 4 Hortonville on Thursday.
Louisa Keenan gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead with a goal 13 minutes into the game. Megan Klitzke made it a 2-0 lead 10 minutes later. Sarah Dickmann and Sydney Steinbach added Shawano goals before halftime to extend its lead to 4-0.
Savannah Johnson, Keenan and Dickmann added second-half goals for the Hawks, who had to withstand a late rally by Hortonville, which scored three goals in the final 20 minutes.
Dickmann had three assists. Matisen Meyers and Morgan Klitzke each recorded an assist.
Carlie Hinnefeld had six saves for Shawano, and Madelyn Rabideau had two.
Shawano improved to 9-9-2 overall and advances to face top-seed Rhinelander on the road Saturday in the regional final.
