Shawano Community High School’s Gracyn Habeck was named to the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association District 2 large school honorable mention team.

“It means a lot! Softball has always been my favorite sport, it’s the sport that I love and could play all the time,” said Habeck, who also made the Bay Conference first team this spring. “To be noticed for the work I have put into the sport again means so much. Again, I thank my coaches and my teammates for pushing me and making me work hard during the season and the offseason.”

Habeck had a big junior season on the diamond for the Hawks, leading the team at the plate and serving as a reliable defender and pitcher while in the field.

In 12 conference games this spring, Habeck collected 18 hits across 40 at-bats for a .450 batting average. She scored 11 runs and drove in 10 more, while having as many strikeouts (4) as walks.

Habeck earned two conference wins in the circle.

“Gracyn was so crucial for us this year as we asked her to play so many different spots due to injuries,” said Shawano coach Brian Johnson. “She played first, third and pitcher. She was also our leading hitter in both average and our RBI leader. The fact that her teammates voted her as a captain speaks volumes about her character. She brought a great attitude and work ethic to practice everyday. It is great to see her get the recognition she deserves.”

Habeck will serve as a player the Hawks can build around going into next spring. She will be one of four returning all-conference selections.

While Habeck is appreciative of the honor, it certainly won’t leave her satisfied.

“This honor is going to make me work harder because there is always room for improvement and I want to improve on my skills so that I can be ready for next year,” Habeck said. “I am ready to push myself this fall and winter to get ready for the softball season and be the best I can be.”
