After turning in strong seasons on the soccer fields, a total of seven local players were recognized for their play with spots on all-conference teams.
Coaches within the Bay, North Eastern and Central Wisconsin conferences voted the players to first, second or honorable mention teams.
Bay Conference
While Shawano did not finish near the top of the Bay Conference, that didn’t stop conference coaches from recognizing a pair of Hawks players.
Junior forward Michael Klement and senior midfielder Mitchell Jung were each selected to the honorable mention team
“It means a lot that Mitch and I were selected to be on the honorable mention team of the year,” Klement said. “The team, as a whole, worked hard and improved throughout the season and it’s an honor that out of everyone, we were selected. Even though we might not have had the best record, I can guarantee that we had the most fun in conference and on and off the bus rides.”
“It means a lot to me to win honorable mention team in my senior season because I have been playing soccer for 12 years and have worked on my skills and leadership to get to the point I am now,” Jung said. “In high school, I have played on varsity since my freshman year and it is exciting to be recognized for my hard work.”
Klement led the Hawks with 17 goals while assisting on eight other scores over the course of the season. Jung finished the year with seven goals and six assists.
Shawano finished the season with a 3-15-2 record and nearly pulled a regional opener upset of Lakeland.
Central Wisconsin Conference
In a tough and balanced Central Wisconsin Conference, the Gresham/Bowler co-op emerged with a 4-8 record to place fifth.
Junior Zack Fehrman earned a spot on the second team after finishing fifth in the conference with 16 goals.
Junior goalie Josh Hoffman was an honorable mention pick despite sharing time in the box with senior Nathaniel Juga. Hoffman finished the season with 32 saves.
The co-op blanked Algoma to open the postseason before dropping a match to top-seeded Kohler.
North Eastern Conference
Clintonville endured a wild ride through the North Eastern Conference, finishing with a 2-3-3 record. The Truckers outscored their opponents 9-8 across those eight games, where defense reigned supreme.
Junior Presley Rosenow was a big part of Clintonville’s defense and earned a spot on the first team all-conference for his efforts. Senior defender Donovan Rindt played his way to a second team selection for his help in defending the net.
Senior forward Matthew Morse was the Truckers’ top threat on offense, scoring four of the team’s goals.
Clintonville earned a No. 6 seed for the postseason and traveled to take on No. 3 Rhinelander, which earned a hard-fought 6-2 victory to end the Truckers season.
