A position switch from wide receiver to running back for Shawano’s Brayden Dickelman was a way for coach Alan Tomow to get the playmaker the ball more often in his junior season.
Dickelman took advantage of his opportunities and produced a monster season on the ground to earn a spot on the Bay Conference first team.
“It’s a tremendous honor being on the first team and knowing all the coaches in our league think I’m one of the best players in our conference,” said Dickelman, who rushed for 1,070 yards and nine touchdowns on the season while also returning two punts for scores and adding a touchdown reception.
Dickelman, an honorable mention selection at receiver as a sophomore, was one of seven different Hawks that earned spots on an all-conference team. Coaches within the conference voted the players to the respective teams recently.
Dickelman noted his offseason work translated to success on the field and that he was excited for an even bigger senior season on the field.
“What allowed me to be so successful this past season was the work I put in during the offseason in the weight room and working on my game any chance I got,” he said. “I have a lot of motivation for next year as I fell short in some of my goals. I wanted to be named running back of the year in the Bay Conference and break the school record for rushing yards. This offseason I’m going to work even harder than I did last year to achieve all my goals and hopefully lead our team to a playoff berth.”
Seniors Nick Grignon, Nathan Krizan and Crede Timm were selected to the second team all-conference as an outside linebacker, offensive lineman and wide receiver, respectively.
“It’s a big honor to take pride in and I’d like to thank all the people that helped me along the way to succeed,” Grignon said. “I’m thankful to achieve this award and my name may be on the award but my parents are a huge part of it as well because without them being a part of my life and giving me the tools to be successful in sports, I would not have had the football career I had through high school.”
“Well, to make short and sweet, it felt great,” Krizan said. “This season was really special to me and the other seniors and it didn’t go the way that we wished it could have, but I gave it my all this year and I am grateful that the coaches in the Bay Conference recognized that. I hope that it also encourages our younger guys that we have passed the torch to, that next season even if the wins and losses don’t look good, that you still got something going for you if you try your hardest and just try to be the best football player that you can be.”
Crede Timm finished the season with a team-high 34 catches for 384 yards and four touchdowns.
Shawano players making the honorable mention team were sophomore Gage Timm, freshman Elliott Lowney and juniors Keith Tourtillott and Andrew Christian.
Gage Timm served as the team’s starting quarterback and finished the season with 783 passing yards and seven touchdowns. He also added 396 yards and three scores on the ground.
Lowney hauled in 19 receptions for 331 yards, a 17.4 yard average. He also scored two touchdowns.
Christian made the team as a defensive back while Tourtillott was an offensive lineman selection.
Shawano finished this season with a 1-7 conference mark and 1-8 record overall but will return several players who gained valuable experience on the field this fall.
