Here is a look at some of the top performances in the area over the past week:
Abi Vomastic — Shawano volleyball
The junior put up big numbers for the Hawks in the postseason, helping the team reach the regional title game. Vomastic led the team in attack kills in each of the last two playoff games, tallying 14 against Denmark and 17 against Notre Dame Academy. She also recorded six blocks over those two matches.
Jaidan Miller — Tigerton volleyball
The senior setter has distributed the ball well for the Tigers this season, and has stepped up her game another level in the postseason. Miller totaled 28 assists and also had 13 service points in the team’s sweep of Gillett last Thursday. She then had 16 assists, eight digs and seven service points in the regional final win over Gresham on Saturday.
Jesse Wilson — Clintonville cross-country
The freshman runner kept his strong season up by placing first at the Division 2 Freedom Sectional last Saturday. His time of 16 minutes, 51.01 seconds was over eight seconds faster than the second-place finisher and secured Wilson a spot at state.
Karisa Nietzer — Gresham volleyball
The junior hitter helped the Wildcats reach the regional title game, leading the team in kills along the way. Nietzer amassed 18 kills in a hard-fought victory over Suring last Thursday before posting 11 kills in a season-ending loss to Tigerton on Saturday.
Jared Wondra — Bonduel cross-country
With his high school career winding down, the senior runner is giving it his all and leaving nothing on the course. Wondra placed fourth at the Division 3 Westfield Sectional last Saturday with a time of 18:08.61. He was the top-finisher on the state-qualifying boys team.
