By Scott Owen Special to the Leader
The Shawano Speedway was full of treats as the track celebrated Halloween at the Half Mile.
Troy Springborn survived a last lap charge from Brett Swedberg for his first win of the year. Lance Arneson secured his first IMCA Modified win of the year with a last lap pass on Wyatt Block. Trent Nolan raced to his fourth consecutive IMCA Stock Car feature win. Lucas Lamberies notched IMCA Sport Mod win number five after a late race pass of Kyle Raddant. Brad Wedde battled with Lucas Hacker for his first Mighty Four win of the season.
Springborn raced to the lead on lap one of the Late Model feature while Swedberg followed him in second. Lap after lap as Springborn led, Swedberg stayed right on the leader. Nick Anvelink battled past Chris Engels to move to third on lap seven.
On multiple occasions, Springborn put his right rear on the wall as Swedberg pulled underneath in a bid for the lead. Springborn continued to hold the lead at the start finish line. On the final lap, Swedberg again made a charge to the inside of Springborn.
Exiting the final turn, the two were side by side and made contact fighting for the lead. The duo crossed the finish line in unison with Springborn winning by the slightest of margins. Swedberg, Anvelink Engels and Ron Berna completed the top five.
Ageless Jerry Muenster led lap one of the IMCA Modified feature before his son, Eddie, made an outside pass to take the top spot on lap two. Block raced past Jerry Muenster for second by lap five and set his sights squarely on Eddie Muenster. Block got underneath Eddie Muenster on lap eight to take the lead.
On lap nine, Arneson passed Jerry Muenster to move to third on the grid. As Block took the white flag, Arneson took to the high line of the track and found an advantage as the pair raced door to door through turns three and four. Arneson pulled ahead though as they approached the checkered flag.
Aaron Karcz took the lead on lap one of the IMCA Stock Car feature as his dad, Junior, followed him. On lap five, Travis VanStraten took to the outside of Aaron Karcz to snag the lead. On lap six, Nolan moved past Aaron Karcz to move to second.
On lap eight, VanStraten and Nolan battled side by side for the lead. VanStraten held off Nolan for a lap before Nolan took over on lap nine. Though he was closely pursued by VanStraten and Dan Michonski over the final 10 laps, Nolan would not be denied his fourth consecutive win.
The IMCA Sport Mod feature saw Kaden Besaw lead the first four laps before Raddant moved past Cole Magnin and Besaw to take the lead on lap five. Brock Saunders also moved to second on lap five. Raddant was firmly in control of the race on lap 16 as a caution flag flew much to the chagrin of the leader.
As the race returned to green, Lamberies got underneath Raddant to take the lead on lap 17. On the final lap, Raddant pulled even with Lamberies entering turn three. The two made contact as they fought for the lead. Lamberies would beat Raddant to the checkered flag though.
In Mighty Four action, Hacker grabbed the lead on lap one and held it until Wedde pulled outside of Hacker. The two drivers battled for the lead for multiple laps until lap 10 when Wedde finally pulled ahead.
