The 33rd annual Leopolis Triathlon is scheduled for July 4 at Leopolis Park.

Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 10:30 a.m. The first contest begins at 11 a.m. and will be run rain or shine.

A parade will follow the contest around 1:30 p.m. before music wraps up the day’s events from 2-5 p.m.

There will once again be three classes competing at the triathlon: a men’s and women’s jock class, a men’s and women’s beer belly class and a youth competition featuring athletes under 16 years old. Last year’s event featured 162 participants.

The jock class race will include swimming in the Leopolis Pond, a 12-mile bike ride and five-mile run. The beer belly and youth classes will each feature a swim in the Leopolis Pond, a five-mile bike ride and two-mile run.

There will be trophies in several categories for each class. Appleton’s Mike Heidke won the jock class last year, while Shawano’s Thomas Peterson finished first in the beer belly class. Shawano’s Ben Carroll won the youth class for a third straight year.

The triathlon is sponsored by the Leopolis Booster Club and Thrivent Action Team.
