Keeney, Resch, Acker compete at sectional
Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Justin Keeney and Ian Resch and Bonduel’s Austin Acker all wrapped up their seasons competing in the Division 2 Ripon Sectional at Lawsonia Links in Green Lake on Tuesday.
Keeney led the trio with an 18-hole round of 87. The score helped the sophomore tie for 20th. Resch, a freshman, shot a 93, good enough to tie for 38th.
Acker turned in a round of 92, tying for 36th to wrap up his high school career.
Peshtigo and Winneconne earned trips to state by claiming the top two team scores of 339 and 347, respectively. Marinette’s Matt Wagner (79), Amherst’s Vince Omernik (79) and Waupaca’s Eli Bartel (82) earned individual spots at state after placing in the top-three golfers who were not a part of a state-qualifying team.
BASEBALL
Bonduel 14
Brillion 12
The second-seeded Bonduel baseball team held off third-seeded Brillion in a high-scoring Division 3 regional contest on Tuesday. The Bears held a 11-4 advantage before needed a pair of six innings runs to help seal the victory.
Wyatt Erb tallied four hits and drive in three runs for Bonduel in the contest. Bryce Maule added three RBIs on two hits while Bryce Weier had three RBIs on three hits. The Bears totaled 13 hits in the game while Brillion had 19.
Jordan Boldt earned the win on the mound for Bonduel while Parker Bohm pitched the seventh to pick up the save. Isaac Boldt also pitched in the game.
Bonduel will travel to take on Saint Mary Catholic for the regional title at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Clintonville 6
Notre Dame 4
Fifth-seeded Clintonville upset top-seeded Notre Dame in a Division 2 regional contest on Tuesday.
The Truckers will now travel to take on second-seeded Seymour for the regional title game at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Clintonville will be searching for a third straight regional upset.
Pulaski 4
Shawano 3
Ninth-seeded Shawano came up a run short in a Division 1 regional opener against eighth-seeded Pulaski on Tuesday.
Shawano held an early lead after a RBI single from Alex Hoffman in the third inning. Pulaski scored the next four runs before the Hawks scored twice in the top of the seventh. Shawano had the tying run on third base, but could not bring the runner home to tie up the game.
Casey Baumann took the loss on the mound for Shawano, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks over six innings. Baumann struck out three batters.
Shawano ends the season with an 8-7 overall record after taking third in the Bay Conference with a 7-5 mark.
Amherst 3
Witt-Birn 2
Fourth-seeded Wittenberg-Birnamwood dropped a tight, eight-inning contest to top-seeded Amherst in a Division 3 regional battle on Tuesday.
Amherst will host the regional final game on Wednesday.
Hilbert/Stockbridge 9
Bowler 1
Fifth-seeded Bowler could not keep up with top-seeded Hilbert/Stockbridge in a Division 4 regional matchup on Tuesday.
The co-op will host Green Bay NEW Lutheran in a regional title game on Wednesday.
Clintonville 5
Oconto Falls 4
Clintonville scored five runs across the final two innings to stun Oconto Falls in a Division 2 regional clash on May 24.
Presley Rosenow, Sean Finger and Keenan Doornink each drove in a run for the Truckers. Kyle Finger tallied three hits while Nick Schoen, Logan Liesenfelder and Rosenow each added two hits. Liesenfelder and Rosenow each scored twice.
Colton Kluth earned the win on the mound, allowing four runs, only one of which was earned, on 11 hits over six innings. Kluth struck out seven batters. Nick Schoen picked up the save, tossing a scoreless seventh inning after the Truckers took the lead in the top half.
