Contributed Photo Shawano Community High School senior Atty Wagner finished first in both of his events at the Waupaca Quadrangular on Thursday. Wagner clinched the 200-meter dash in 24.39 seconds and tied his personal best in the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches.

Shawano Community High School senior Atty Wagner finished first in both of his events at the team’s first outdoor meet at Waupaca on Thursday. Wagner won the 200-meter dash in 24.39 seconds and tied his personal best in the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches.
Q What’s your favorite part about the sport?
A My favorite part about track is meeting and competing against new people. Everyone cheers each other on so it’s always fun when the people you are competing against want you to do your best.
Q How does it feel starting the season out with several first place finishes?
A Starting out with a couple of first-place and other high-place finishes is really cool for me. It’s a real confidence booster and a reminder that hard work pays off.
Q What have you done in the offseason, along with your underclassman years, to establish yourself as a key contributor this year?
A In the offseason I do a lot of lifting and speed training. Also between track seasons I participate in football and basketball which helps keep me in good shape.
Q What are your goals for your final season?
A My goals for this season are pretty straight forward. I would like to tie/beat my former teammate’s school record in the high jump, which is 6-5, I would also like to beat our schools 4x200 relay record, and finally I would love to make a state run this year in the high jump and bring my teammate, Tori DePerry, with me.
Q Do you have a favorite memory of Shawano track?
A My favorite memory would have to be when coach Hanssen fell off the pit while helping the high jumpers practice back flips.
Q What athlete do you look up to and why?
A The athlete I look up to is Kobe Bryant because of his mentality, commitment and hard work ethic.
Q Who is your favorite sports team?
A My favorite sports team is Duke because they were the first college basketball team I watched as a kid.
Q What’s your favorite thing to do in your free time?
A In my free time I either hangout with friends, play basketball, go thrifting or play Fortnite.
Q Favorite TV show, movie, musical artist?
A Favorite TV show is “Dexter”, favorite movie is “Nightcrawler” and my favorite artist is Lil Skies.
