Buck ties Hawks’ pole vault record with win at Ripon

Just two meets into the season, Shawano is showing early success with several athletes setting personal bests and six Hawks finishing in the top-five overall at the Ripon Showcase Meet on Saturday at Ripon College.

Senior Payden Buck not only hit a PR, but tied the school record in the boys pole vault at 14 feet, 6 inches, originally set by Daniel Boivin in 2015. Buck earned first place overall amongst 36 jumpers in both the large and small school divisions.

Junior Tori DePerry placed second overall and second in the small school division in the girls high jump at 4-10. She finished behind Ashlyn Oren, of Edgerton, at 5-0.

Senior Atty Wagner finished third in the small school division and tied for third overall in the boys high jump at 6-02. Wagner also finished seventh in the small school division 60-meter dash in 7.59 seconds.

Junior Parker Pues placed second in the small school division and fifth overall in the boys long jump with a leap of 21-02. Pues also finished first in the small school triple jump at 41-03, which was good for seventh place overall. Pues rounded out his individual performance with a fifth-place small school finish in the 60 dash in 7.33 seconds.

Freshman Lydia Beyer finished fourth overall and fourth in small school division in the girls 3,200 with a time of 12:42.18. Beyer also finished fourth in the small school 1,600 in 5:53.36.

Junior Michael Klement placed fourth in the small school boys pole vault at 11-06, which put him at a tie for fifth place overall.

Other notable finishers for the Hawks include Carrie Young, who finished third in the girls small school division 400 at 1:06.74 and Alice Hoffman, who finished fifth in the girls small school 3,200 at 13:30.57.

Christa Cummings and Elizabeth Dillenburg each finished seventh in the girls small school triple jump and shot put, respectively. Cummings had a jump of 29-08.5 and Dillenburg recorded a throw of 29-02.

In relay action, the boys 4x200 relay comprised of Pues, Buck, Wagner and Crede Timm finished first in the small division and fifth overall with a time of 1:37.37.

The boys team finished fifth in the small school division out of 15 teams and the girls finished seventh out of 14 teams. Freedom placed first for both boys and girls.
