Wildcats take Rosholt 9 innings
The Gresham Community High School baseball team nearly handed Rosholt its first Central Wisconsin Conference-10 loss, going nine innings before losing 8-7.
“We played the game of our lives,” Gresham coach Troy Kuhn said. “We had players in scoring position, but we couldn’t get them in.”
Gresham (6-5, 6-5 CWC-10) lost when Justin Yenter hit an RBI single in the ninth to break the 7-7 tie.
Scott Cerveny allowed three runs, nine hits and three walks while striking out 11 in eight innings on the mound. Kalen Fischer led Gresham at the plate with three hits and three RBIs.
Jared Richter earned the win for Rosholt (10-2, 10-0).
Menominee Indian routs Marion
The Menominee Indian High School baseball team had 15 hits in a 13-0 five-inning win over Marion on Friday in Marion.
Lowell Chevalier went 4 for 4 and had two RBIs to lead the Eagles (8-2, 7-2 CWC-10). Ty Latender had three hits. Richard Corn had two hits and two RBIs and earned the win. He allowed four hits, struck out two and walked two.
Joel Brei took the loss. He walked one and struck out three. Marion (2-9, 2-9 CWC-10) had seven errors in the game.
Eagles fall to Marion
The Menominee Indian High School softball team lost 9-4 to Marion on Friday in Marion.
Taylor Mahkimetas had three hits, including a triple and an RBI to lead Menominee Indian (3-6, 3-6 CWC-10). She also took the loss pitching.
McKenzie Thoma earned the win for Marion (2-4, 2-4 CWC-10). She allowed four runs in seven innings and struck out 12, walked two and gave up seven hits.
Truckers beat Omro 4-3
The Clintonville High School softball team beat Omro 4-3 in a nonconference game Friday in Clintonville.
Megan Wittman earned the win, pitching 1 2-3 innings of relief. She struck out five. Sami Huggins had three hits, while Abby Bessette and Samanna Dey each had doubles.
Amanda Dempsey took the loss, pitching seven innings and striking out one.
Records broken at Seymour
Shawano Community High School high jumper Isabella Gonzalez and Clintonville runner Allison Johnson each set records Thursday at the Seymour Invitational.
Gonzalez tied the SCHS record in the high jump, clearing 5-foot-4. Johnson broke the Clintonville record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.93.
In the boys meet, Shawano finished 11th overall with a score of 54. Clintonville (49) was 12th. The Shawano girls finished 13th (35) and Clintonville (60) was 11th.
Hawks third at meet
The Shawano Community High School golf team took third in a Bay Conference meet Thursday at Mid Vallee Golf Course in Lawrence.
Shawano (326) was third behind Marinette (311) and New London (319). The team also matched cards on the back nine against West De Pere, to make up for a rained out meet Wednesday. Shawano won, 173-172.
Braden Mueller led Shawano with a round of 74. Ian Lewis shot 79, Ryan Hoffman 82 and Garrett Schlise 91.
James breaks Eagles records
Gordon James broke two Menominee Indian High School records at the Peshtigo Invitational on Thursday in Peshtigo.
James took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.41 to set one record. He finished first in the 200 dash with a time of 23.21 to set another record.
The Eagles’ boys team finished ninth at the meet with a score of 23. Bonduel (75) was fifth. For the girls, Bonduel (40) was sixth and Menominee Indian finished fourth.
