GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 43, Bonduel 23

Wittenberg-Birnamwood defeated Bonduel in a Central Wisconsin Conference-East matchup on Tuesday.

Emily Norrbom led the Chargers with 10 points and six rebounds, followed by Abi Fraaza with nine points. Jessie LaBerge scored nine points for Bonduel.

“We came out tough defensively tonight holding Bonduel to nine first-half points,” Witt-Birn head coach Nick Mechelke said. “We really worked on our defense the last couple days and it showed the whole game. We pressured the ball very well. I give Bonduel credit, they cut our lead to 7 points in the second half, but we regrouped and put it back together to finish it off.”

“We need to take better care of the basketball,” Bonduel head coach Jerry Reinke said. “We couldn’t rebound, and we couldn’t control the ball, so we’ve got things to work on.”

Shawano 47, Clintonville 38

Shawano defeated Clintonville 47-38 on Saturday at Clintonville.

“We played very hard, but couldn’t overcome some mistakes and DePerry from Shawano,” Clintonville head coach Nick Yaeger said. “She’s a very good ball player and we had no answer for her. We got it back within four points at the end but that was as close as we could get. I love the fact that our team never gives up and always plays hard. This will help us down the road as the season goes on. This is a young team and can learn from these type of games.”

DePerry led the Hawks with 29 points and 12 rebounds, and Brandi Gueths added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Clintonville’s Lizzy Weatherwax and Chelsey Birling each scored eight points, followed by Abby King with seven, Elly Arndt with five and Lindsy Carpenter with five. Arndt and Erin Viergutz each had six rebounds.
