Huskies visited Hanauer and the Buffalo Bulls.
The Huskies defeated the Bulls 14-13. After the game, the former Hawks reunited before running off through separate tunnels to continue their football journeys.
“It was a little bit weird to see a guy I played football with in high school and am close with on the opposite sideline,” Hanauer said. “We had been keeping up by text and social media, but it was really nice to see him again in person and catch up a bit.”
As an offensive lineman, Gueths protected quarterback Hanauer from defenders for three seasons as Hawks.
Hanauer, a freshman at the University of Buffalo, played for the Hawks from 2013-16 and is the school’s all-time leading passer with 3,864 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also rushed for 506 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior.
Gueths, a freshman offensive tackle at Northern Illinois, played from 2013-15 and was Shawano’s first Division 1 football recruit after earning a full-ride scholarship. The three-year letterman recorded 59 tackles for the Hawks.
