Shawano Community High School will induct four athletes into its Athletic Hall of Fame at noon Oct. 7 in the school commons as part of the annual homecoming festivities.
The inductees are Fritz E. Wolf, Larry Maltbey, Deb (Wilber) Boelter and Darcie O’Kimosh, Boelter’s daughter.
Wolf attended SCHS from 1929-33. He was a three-sport athlete and competed all four years of his high school career in football, basketball and track.
In 1933, Shawano’s football team won the conference championship, and Wolf was awarded the Golden Football Award for his play at halfback and punter. In basketball, Wolf served as co-captain of the 1933 conference championship team.
Maltbey attended SCHS from 1952-56. He was a three-sport athlete, participating in football, basketball and baseball.
Maltbey was captain of the 1956 state championship basketball team, which defeated Appleton High School 74-68 for the title at the Wisconsin Field House in Madison. He was considered the team’s top defender and had a double-digits scoring average on offense.
Boelter attended SCHS from 1976-80 and participated in golf, basketball and track all four years. She earned nine varsity letters.
Boelter led the Shawano girls golf team to the state tournament and was selected as co-MVP. In basketball, she was named to the Bay Conference first team and was the fifth leading scorer in the conference, averaging 14 points per game. Boelter also held the SCHS girls high jump record (5-foot-2) for several years.
O’Kimosh attended SCHS from 1998-2002 and participated in four sports, including four years of volleyball and basketball, one season of track and field, and three years of softball. O’Kimosh earned nine varsity letters.
O’Kimosh was co-MVP in basketball and Defensive Player of the Year in volleyball for her sophomore, junior and senior years. She joined the track and field team her freshman year and qualified to run in the 1999 state track meet in La Crosse with the 1,600-meter relay team.
As a senior, O’Kimosh was a member of the 2002 state championship softball team, and is remembered as the first female to hit a home run out of the park in WIAA state tournament history.
