Hawks go 1-3 at opening tourney
Kaleigh Zoll, playing in the No. 1 singles position, went 3-1 Monday and Tuesday, including victories over Kewaunee, Marinette and Green Bay East, at the season-opening Battle on the Fox at Bay Port High School.
Shawano, which played in four dual matches over two days, defeated Kewaunee (6-1) but lost to Marinette (6-1), Ashwaubenon (7-0) and Green Bay East (4-3).
Lydia Williams, Shawano’s No. 2 singles player, went 2-1.
The Hawks were playing without top singles player Sydney Steinbach while working with new doubles teams in the competition.

Shawano ties for 2nd at Bay match
Senior Brianna Zook shot a 48, and Brinley Kowalkowski followed it up with a 53 to help Shawano tie for second place Tuesday at a Bay Conference match at Vernon Hills.
Kiley Rusch and Kayla Ward helped the Hawks tie Seymour with a 220. Xavier (188) won the meet, led by medalist Lauren Haen’s round of 40.
Bonduel (257) placed fifth out of the six teams, led by Mariah Diemel’s 52. Jessie LaBerge shot a 63, and Kayla Ann Wagester added a 68.
