While storms passed to the north and south of the Shawano Speedway on Saturday, the track once again showed how the racing community is one big family. Hunter Doughty, a teenager from the New London area who has fought back from some severe medical issues, was the first to visit Victory Lane. Along with his family, Hunter was presented with a trophy, feature winner hat, sticker and a photo of his favorite driver by the Shawano Speedway.

IMCA Modifieds

The IMCA Modifieds were the first to tackle the half-mile as their feature rolled trackside with Cody Hudson and Michael Bailey leading them to the green flag. Hudson jumped to the early advantage over Bailey until a lap 3 caution.

On the restart, Konnor Wilinski drove past Hudson to capture the top spot. Wilinski then drove away from the field, building a commanding lead. While a couple of cautions slowed Wilinski, the action behind him picked up.

On lap 15 Konnor’s father, Jerry Wilinski, grabbed the runner-up spot from Lance Arneson. At the checkered flag, it would be Konnor with the win. Jerry grabbed second with Mark Weisnicht taking third.

IMCA Stock Cars

The IMCA Stock Cars division once again proved that not only are they the greatest show on dirt but also that the cream rises to the top. Luke Uttecht used his pole position to grab the point for the first half of the race. Barry Streck ran second with Josh Mrockowski in third. Behind this group were Justin Jacobson, Travis VanStraten and Dan Michonski. Jacobson grabbed the top spot on lap 11, bringing the VanStraten machine with him to second.

Michonski moved into the third spot a lap later and began his pursuit of the top two. VanStraten powered past Jacobson on lap 19 and rode off to his third win in seven days at the speedway.

Michonski slipped past Jacobson on the final lap to take second. Matt Alvey grabbed fourth, with Gary Kasparek rounding out the top five.

Late Models

The Late Models division took to the track with Derek Janke and Josh Moesch showing the way.

Janke led the first two laps, only to have Moesch move past him on lap 3. Moesch and Janke held the top two spots as Troy Springborn looked for an opening. While Springborn looked for a lane to open up, Ron Berna was quickly moving forward. A slight bobble by Janke briefly slowed both he and Springborn, opening a door for Berna to jump to second. One lap later, Berna powered past Moesch, grabbed the lead cruised to victory. Brett Swedberg made his way to the runner-up spot, with Tim Buhler, Chris Engels and Justin Schmidt rounding out the top five.

IMCA Sport Mods

Jordan Barkholtz, last week’s feature winner, would have some work to do if a repeat was in the cards. Barkholtz hit the track starting in the eighth spot as the IMCA Sport Mods took to the half-mile.

Kevin Bethke grabbed the lead on lap two with Jason Jach in the runner-up spot. Bethke and Jach held the top two spots over Brock Saunders and Kyle Raddant as Barkholtz started to move forward. Barkholtz grabbed the second spot from Jach on lap 12 and then the lead from Bethke the following lap.

From that point on it was all Barkholtz. Bethke finished second, with Jach maintained third. Jason Ebert piloted his car to fourth, and Raddant finished fifth.

Mighty Fours

The four-cylinders feature concluded the night’s racing schedule. Max Oreskovich dominated the race, grabbing the lead on lap three and never looking back. Hollie Welch moved to the runner-up spot on lap six, with Calvin Stueck moving to third. Stueck took second from Welch on lap 11.

The checkers waved over a top five of Oreskovich, Stueck, Hollie Welch, Michael Brehmer and Travis Welch.
