Boys Swim

Shawano vs. Lakeland

The Hawks, who are looking for a conference championship, lost the first dual of the season to Lakeland 93-77 but are looking for a better showing at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Shawano Community High School.

Senior Griffin Rades won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, James Kruger added two top-two finishes, and Jeffrey Green won the 100 free in the previous meet with Lakeland. The Hawks struggled in the relays, finishing second in the 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free.

Thursday’s dual meet is the last one before the Great Northern Conference meet Feb. 3 in Antigo.

Girls Basketball

Shawano at Bonduel

The young Shawano girls basketball team will be challenged on the road when it faces the senior-heavy Bonduel Bears at 7:15 p.m. Saturday.

Junior Brandi Gueths and sophomore Tori DePerry have helped the Hawks to a 8-6 record and 4-4 in the Bay Conference. Guards Kennedy Klemens and Hannah Wendorff have been pleasant surprises for the Hawks but will be matched up against the aggressive duo of Danee Collier and Kailee Pederson, who both have a size advantage.

The Bears (11-4, 5-3 Central Wisconsin Conference-8) have eight seniors on their roster, and have gotten major contributions from seniors Emily Sorenson, Becca Carpenter, Collier and Pedersen. Fellow senior forward Hayley Sorenson has eased her way back into the lineup after an ACL injury and a minor ankle setback.

Shawano won the matchup last season at home, 66-54.

STANDOUT

Bowler High School junior Reanne Kietlinski broke the school’s career scoring mark with 18 points in Tuesday’s loss to Tri-County, passing Taylor Rosinski’s total of 1,258 points.

Kietlinski is the leading scorer in the Central Wisconsin Conference-10, averaging 24.8 points per game, more than five points clear of second place Amber Baehman.

QUICK HITS

• Shawano guard Kaden Richards scored a career-high 26 points, including the game-winning basket in a 59-57 road victory Tuesday.

• Clintonville senior Nathan Krueger posted two double-doubles in the past week, totalling 30 points and 24 rebounds as the Truckers went 1-1 in North Eastern Conference action.
