3 Bowler Panthers named to 2nd team

Gresham Community School senior middle hitter Sydney Jensen has been a mainstay at the net for her team and the Central Wisconsin Conference-10 for the past two seasons.

After leading the Wildcats in kills this season, she was named to the CWC-10 all-conference first team.

“She’s been our go-to player,” Gresham head coach Tim Wild said. “Other players have looked up to her. She’s been a role model for other players, and I think that can rub off on other players as well.”

Tigerton middle hitters Lonna Minniecheske and Monika Minniecheske were also named to the first team.

Bowler, the conference’s only remaining team in the WIAA playoffs, had three second-team selections in Saychia Wayka, Maranda Brei and Brooke Breitrick.

The Panthers, which rely on six players to play the majority of the points, used teamwork to finish second in the conference behind Wild Rose. Bowler head coach Brad Brei believes that his well-rounded athletes were overlooked in favor of more specialized players from other teams for first-team picks.

Reanne Kietlinski was an honorable mention selection for Bowler.

Gresham junior setter Dani Huntington also was an honorable mention selection. She replaced for Taylor Hoffman, a first-team all-conference choice from 2015, and the Wildcats barely missed a beat.

“She was right there with what Taylor had last year,” Wild said. “I thought I saw a lot of growth in her throughout the season. I think we’re lucky to have her for another year going forward.”

Marion’s Camille Radies and Skylla Szczerbak also received honorable mention honors.

Menominee Indian, which finished last in the CWC-10, had just one all-conference selection: Jalen Corn, to the second team.
