Menominee Indian senior Tyler Komanekin dominated the competition at the Wolf River Lutheran High School cross-country meet Monday at the Maple Hills Ski Trails in Shawano.
Komanekin (19 minutes, 34 seconds) finished a full minute in front of second-place finisher Neal Cerveny (20:38) of Gresham/Bowler. Cerveny outsprinted Lena/STAA’s Conner Heise (20:39) to the finish line.
Menominee Indian was the only complete team at the five-team invite on the hilly course around the RC Flying Club Field.
Menominee Indian’s Sonny Nacotee (21:03) finished fourth, ahead of teammate Jason Komanekin (21:10). Richard Wayka and Jerome Munson finished in eighth and ninth, respectively.
Gresham/Bowler added sixth- and seventh-place finishes by Drew Haffner (21:11) and Levi Schick (21:20).
Blaine Andrada and Ben Schmidt, Wolf River Lutheran’s two runners, were separated by just 10 seconds at 10th- and 11th-place, respectively.
The girls race had four runners. Lena/STAA runner Alexis Misco (27:03) placed first; Haily Jorgenson (32:48), Washington Island, second; Georgia Thomson, Lena/STAA, third; and Ciara Urbanek, Lena/STAA, fourth.
