Hawks, Tigers open season in Wausau

Kristy Kurtz and Onalee Siegfried took the top two places in the pole vault at Shawano’s opening meet of the season Saturday at the Wausau West Early Bird Invitational.

Other top-three finishers for the Hawks were Tori DePerry in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches) and Chase Lhotka in the 800-meter dash (2 minutes, 27.66 seconds). Parker Pues placed fourth in the 55 in 7.17 seconds.

Tigerton’s best finishers in the meet each took fourth place: Charity Desrochers in the 55 (8.22 seconds) and Lonna Minniecheske in the 200 hurdles (35.75).

Shawano scored 58.5 points in the girls meet, good for fourth place among eight teams. Tigerton finished sixth with 25 points. Wausau West won the girls meet.

The Shawano boys finished in fourth place among the six teams with 75 points. Tigerton was last with 6 points. West won the meet.
