Menominee Indian wins wrestling regional

6 Bonduel wrestlers advance

Six Menominee Indian High School wrestlers advanced to the WIAA sectionals Saturday as the Eagles won the Division 3 regional championship in Shiocton.

Six Bonduel wrestlers also advanced out of the Brillion regional.

Menominee Indian won the regional with 213.5 points. Shiocton (170.5) was second. With the win, MIHS advanced to the team sectional tournament and will face Crandon, winner of the Three Lakes regional, on Tuesday.

Four Menominee Indian wrestlers won their weight classes Saturday — Vel Hawkins (106), Blake Stoehr (120), Kyle Winker (126) and Antonio Mahkimetas (145). Kyle Komanekin (160) and Keenan Richmond (220) also moved on to the Bonduel sectional with second-place finishes.

Coleman (283.5) won the Brillion regional, with Bonduel (195) second.

Garrett Siolka (113) won Bonduel’s only individual title Saturday. However, Travis Wollenberg (126), Dan Tauchen (152), Mitch Sokolski (160), Jacob Wudtke (170) and Bennett Gunderson (195) also advanced to the sectional with second-place finishes.

The Bonduel sectional will be held at Shawano Community High School, with the first session scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
